2017 INVESTMENT SUMMARY The reason PIC Investment Group Inc. negotiates and participates in minority investments is to facilitate entrepreneurship and help existing businesses grow. PIC assesses risk and makes investment decisions based on the criteria listed on our website. Our intention is always to maximize our return either long-term or short-term, by bringing some expertise to the business. Our basic underlying motive is a belief that a strong and vibrant economy is constructed by growing one business at a time. On September 18, 2017, Greg and Olivia Yuel of PIC were pleased to announce PIC’s newest minority investment at the official launch of Verdient Foods Inc., a dry pea protein fractionation facility in Vanscoy, Saskatchewan. The majority owners and our newest partners of Verdient Foods are Oscar-winning film director and Canadian native James Cameron and his wife Suzy Amis Cameron. This is a significant minority investment for PIC and we are honoured to assist the Cameron’s in the further development and growth of Saskatchewan’s value-added agricultural sector. PIC was pleased to announce five additional new investments this past year with highly capable entrepreneurs at the helm including: Coconut Calendar; Arlene Dickinson’s District Venture Fund; MicroMech; Exaltexx; and Med-Life Discoveries. PIC also provided support through follow-on investments to 5 companies in the portfolio. There were several exits this past year with the most notable being Prairie Plant System’s, CanniMed Therapeutics which successfully completed its initial public offering. Growth in the minority investment portfolio was significant this past year and we are proud to have such a diverse and strong group of companies in our minority portfolio.
